JUDGING CRITERIA
It is recognized that "Judging" is the most controversial and difficult part of any competition. Everything possible will be done to make the judging, in the CWC, as fair & equitable as possible. Each entry will be judged on what was done, not on what was not done.
GROUP 1 (Categories 1 - 3)
- Degree of Complexity
- Skilled Execution
- Accuracy (including Painting)
- Life-like presence, Essence
- Artistry, Originality, Creativity
GROUP 2 (Category 5)
- Degree of Complexity
- Skilled Execution
- Accuracy
- Artistry
- Durability
GROUP 3 (Categories 4 & 6 - 9)
- Degree of Complexity
- Skilled Execution
- Life-like presence, Essence
- Painting &/or Finish
- Artistry, Originality, Creativity
GROUP 4 (Category 10 -15)
- Degree of Complexity
- Skilled Execution
- Perspective
- Painting &/or Finish
- Artistry, Originality, Creativity
- All Purchase Awards, will be judged as per groups 1, 2, 3, & 4; depending on the subject's category.
- When a carving is entered in the Class Purchase Award and the appropriate general competition, it will be judged as a Purchase Award first, and then moved to the General Class Judging.
JUDGING PROCEDURE FOR BEST OF SHOW
- Qualifying - 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Best of Class
- 1st Best of Show: Judge - 1st Best of Class - 3 pieces
- 2nd Best of Show: Judge - those remaining from 1st Best of Show Judging & the eligible 2nd Best of Class 3 pieces
- 3rd Best of Show: Judge - those remaining from 2nd Best of Show & the next eligible piece 3 pieces.
PLEASE TAKE SPECIAL NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
- To be judged separately, a category should have a minimum of 3 entries. Failing this, that category may be combined with others in the same judging criteria group.
- To be judged separately, a sub-category should have a minimum of 3 entries. Failing this, that sub-category may be combined with others in the same category.
- This is at the discretion of the Rules Committee. (See General Rules and Regulations, #8 & #9)
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention Ribbons will be awarded regardless of the number of carvings entered in a category.
